It’s always a good idea to ensure your team members know and understand your company’s mission and vision, but it’s absolutely paramount that they embody them.

Connecting your teams to your company’s mission and vision takes proactive and ongoing effort. Recently, we revisited our mission and vision with each and every team member; and here’s what we’ve learned that will help you create and maintain that connection for the long term.

What are mission and vision statements?

The best way to get your teams engaged in the company's direction is to get them involved in defining it. So the first step for us was to schedule a one-on-one call with each team member in order to learn more about...

Your answers to these questions can look out three, four, five years, or even a decade down the road.

Why should you connect your teams to your company’s mission and vision?

You may be wondering why you should go through all that trouble?

In other words, no matter how good you are at what you do, you will never win the competition if you don’t have a clear direction or, worse, if you’re headed in the wrong direction.

Most of us are loyal to our company. We try our best to contribute our best and do the right thing but a lack of strategic direction can lead to untold conflict, apathy, and poor productivity. That’s why it’s vital that your teams resonate with your company’s mission and vision. To help you achieve that, we’re sharing our three Cs to successfully connecting our teams to our company’s mission and vision:

1. Communicate

Well-designed microinteractions can lead the eye to the important content as they go from one screen to another. Such animations, known as staging, bring focus to actions that should be taken next or potential interactions to be initiated, creating a smooth action flow for the user.

  • What success looks like in their respective roles
  • What they want to accomplish both personally and professionally
  • What values they stand for in and out of the workplace

Remember, communication is the key to unlocking every door in your company. The better your teams align with your mission and vision, the higher the chances of them staying on board and being happier to contribute – but you can’t get there unless you talk to them first.

2. Connect the Dots

The mission and vision statements of any company should be tied to achievable goals for team members, hence it’s important to understand what success means for each individual.

Framing them in this manner will help integrate them into the day-to-day experience at work. When you do that, you bring your teams in direct touch with these essential aspects, which in turn means they’re more on board with the company goals and more willing to incorporate the same in their routines. That way, everyone within the company – from the junior executive to the CEO – will be able to feed into the system to push the company towards its goal.

After speaking to every Digital Workroomer and gathering their thoughts, it became clear that many of us shared similar goals for the company. We went away and picked out the common points in everyone’s feedback, which then shaped our new mission and vision that everyone can relate to.

3. Celebrate Successes

When your mission and vision become an integral part of the work you do, your teams will be able to move well in line with the organizational goals – and when they do, make sure you take time to appreciate that effort!

Incentives need not always be monetary. Sometimes, a little pat on the back goes a long way in boosting team morale. Happy and motivated teams foster a comfortable and holistic workspace that encourages everyone to share their views and ideas openly.
